Just because...

I was walking around the West Village this weekend enjoying the fabulous 70 degree weather when I passed the corner of Jane and Hudson street and noticed that their block association must have just changed out the flowers in the planters along that stretch of Jane St. Never before have I seen such an interesting choice of flower - the height was startling, but they do go very well with the taxis!

Emmy Awards Fashion Fun!

I am a huge awards show fan and love that time period between January-March when you are assured some awards are being given out almost every other week. That being said, the Emmy's have never been one of my favorites. Last night's show though was one of the better Emmy Awards I remember (most likely thanks to Jimmy Fallon). The fashion however was nothing mind-blowing, although there were a few standouts:

My favorite of the night - Glee star, Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta. The navy is stunning on her and flatters her in every which way.

Kyra Sedgwick always looks impeccable and loves to impress in solid, rich colors. She chose a gorgeous cranberry Monique Lhullier last night which she accessorized with a VBH clutch.

Keri Russell never fails to always look cute and last night was no different. She reminded me of Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing with her pink halter dress and gold sandal heels.
For the men, Don Draper (aka Jon Hamm) looked impeccable in his Giorgio Armani suit and accessorized as always with longtime girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt who also donned Armani.

I loved the Tom Ford tuxedo that Glee director, Ryan Murphy wore - he in fact loved it so much that he thanked Ford in his acceptance speech...

There was one fashion miss last night that I can't stop thinking about - (so maybe she was doing something right?) January Jones. She always looks gorgeous, but this was a tough one. I loved the color on her and the risk she took, but I am just not sure this was the right pick. Although she is probably one of the only people who could pull it off.

Interview Mag + Cole Haan

Last night Interview Magazine joined Cole Haan in celebrating the launch of tennis star Maria Sharapova's Fall collection at the Sky Room at the New Museum. Also on hand as a co-host was photographer and blogger, Todd Selby (aka The Selby). Todd and Cole Haan joined forces last Spring when they tapped him to shoot their Spring ad campaign. Cole Haan has obviously had a positive response to the street-style inspired images and the crowd at the downtown event represented a younger, hipper feel for the classic brand.

Maria Sharapova modelling the Air Swan Sandal and Swan Small Crossbody handbag (both in dark aubergine velvet) from her new Fall line...

Prints by Todd Selby were auctioned at the event with proceeds benefiting Common Cents. Todd Selby also designed Cole Haan stickers modeled here by a happy party-goer...and the Maria Sharapova Bacara ballet flats for Cole Haan

There was an abundance of great shoes at the event, but best shoe award definitely goes to the new Cole Haan Air Colton worn by none other than a chic Cole Haan employee. Unfortunately, my picture does not do the shoe and most importantly the laces justice so I am including a detail shot below:

You can view the complete Maria Sharapova Fall collection here and be sure to check her out next weekend when the US Open begins!

K-razy for Kate!

Some of you may have already seen the "book clutches" from Kate Spade, but I couldn't resist posting them today. Bringing new meaning to book worm you can now keep one of your favorite tomes with you at all times while out on the town. The first edition of clutches from Kate Spade features: The Great Gatsby, Great Expectations and The Importance of Being Earnest. Disclaimer: they come with the price tag ($325) of a clutch and sadly not a book.

CHART Metalworks

I have a major crush on CHART Metalworks. I recently purchased a pair of cuff links from them as a gift and they were a hug hit! The company was started by Portland, ME resident Charlotte who had the brilliant idea to embed charts in resin. Like lockets are used to store special memories, these pieces allow you to showcase the places that are special to you. Once you choose your product - anything from cuff links, necklaces, key chains, zipper pulls, earrings to charms - you let Charlotte know what area/location you are interested in (Note: it must be located on a body of water). You can even send them an image of your own and they will duplicate it. CHART Metalworks will then send you a proof to approve. I received a couple of different nautical chart options to choose from as well as Charlotte's suggestion for what would look best. CHART Metalworks casts in either bronze or sterling silver. They print your point of interest onto a special paper which is then cropped and embedded into the piece. Resin is poured over the piece and takes 24 hours to dry. Once dry it almost looks like glass, but is much lighter in weigh. Within a few days your piece will be delivered to you and you will have your new favorite piece of jewelry in your hands!

My personal fave (although I am obviously biased) are my Casco Bay, ME cuff links:

Fall Prep

As much as we want to ignore it Fall is approaching. It is never more evident these days then when trying to shop for "wear-now" pieces and being bombarded by tweed, wool and leather. I have decided to succumb to the powers that be and get inspired for the coming season!

One must have collection this Fall: Rag & Bone

The always sophisticated and impeccably chic: 3.1 Phillip Lim

From daytime casual (Marc by Marc Jacobs) to all hours hip (Gryphon) and a cool night out (Haute Hippie)...

The September Issue

My mailbox is filled to the brim with September "Fall Fashion" issues these days and as I try to tackle the hundreds of pages now littering my cocktail table I am remembering how much I loved "The September Issue"  - the documentary which chronicled Anna Wintour and the Vogue team as they prepared the September 2007 issue of Vogue magazine. As the tagline reads: "Fashion is a religion. This is the bible." A little overboard, but the documentary was superb and you do not have to be a devoted fashionista to appreciate it. The film is available on dvd so rent/buy today!

Lonny Mag - Aug/Sep Issue is Live!

The new issue of Lonny Mag is live and filled with a variety of homes, styles and products you will want to get your hands on asap!

There is no shortage of color when Lonny visits the England home of designer Cath Kidston:

I absolutely love the feel of these two rooms in Vincente Wolf's Montauk home...

Instantly calming...

If somehow you aren't in a serene state yet...jump into this insane bath!

The countdown is on to the launch of the John Derian for Target collection. Lonny has a great preview of the must-buy products to come...mark your calendars for September 5th, I have a feeling these items will be flying off the shelves:

His to-die-for coasters and trays have been revitalized for this collection into melamine so that the price tag is much more affordable than his signature decoupage, style however is not sacrificed...

For more on the collaboration visit Target.com and to learn more about the designer himself check out his website here.
